Playing Card Designs

Graphic Design

I have combined my illustration and lettering skills on several playing card projects over the years, including elaborate tuck boxes and custom court cards. Inspired by the rich and storied history of card design, it's a fun challenge to put a contemporary twist on traditional themes.

Detailed card back, Ace of Spades and Joker illustrated as part of a suite of assets for Cloud Poker Night.

Branding and design for a deck of custom playing cards commemorating AGI's 2022 presentation of Blue Rodeo in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Printed by the USPC (United States Playing Card Company).

Ornate card back design and monogram logo for the D&D-style board game A Thousand Faces of Adventure.

Tuck box design elements for a commissioned deck entitled Khozama (Lavender).
Arabic calligraphy by Abdulrhman Alfaiz.

"Speaklow" is a traditional card deck commissioned by Mise en Scène Playing Card Co, Singapore, inspired by the detailed linework of vintage cigar packaging.

Part of a series of illustrations for Mohegan Sun, an Indigenous owned and operated casino in Connecticut. Working closely with the tribal council and the creative agency overabove, each card was inspired by traditional Mohegan patterns and motifs. The court card likenesses were based on archival photographs and pay homage to prominent Mohegan ancestors. Pictured below, left to right, are Burrill Fielding (1862–1952) and Roscoe Skeesucks (1889–1950).

Detailed back panel design and foil-stamped, blind-embossed tuck box for Escaping Ordinary, a tarot-sized deck of psychology flash cards focusing on cognitive "mind traps".
The various icon illustrations were developed in collaboration with Brett Marx.
